A Promise Fulfilled

Day 1: Depart U.S. June 17
Day 2: June 18

We arrive in Zurich. We will board our motor coach and travel to Lucerne, the lovely city situated on the Lake of Lucerne. Here you will find snow-capped mountains, a rushing river in the middle of the city, old town walls and towers. We will have a short tour of the city seeing 15th & 16th century houses, a historic wooden bridge, & the celebrated Lion Monument dedicated to the Swiss Guard of Louis XVI. The afternoon will be free to explore or shop in this charming place.

Day 3: June 19

After breakfast, we will travel through gorgeous scenery as we see the best of Switzerland. We will cross the Brunig pass as we enter the Bernese Oberland region on our way to the resort town of Interlaken, guarded from afar by the majestic peak, Jungfrau. There will be time for shopping. We will visit the awesome waterfall, Reichenbachfall.

Day 4: June 20

After breakfast we will be on our way to Austria. We will visit the enchanting principality of Liechtenstein, an independent state wedged between Switzerland and Austria. We will have time to shop for souvenirs.

You may purchase postage stamps and have your passport stamped at the Vaduz post office. We will cross into Austria & travel on to Innsbruck for a brief visit, then on to the beautiful city of Salzburg.

Day 5: June 21

After breakfast, we will explore this Baroque city, which is one of Europe’s most charming cities. It is admired as the birthplace of Mozart and for its magnificent setting among the Alps. We will visit most of the sites where “The Sound of Music” was filmed. Our afternoon will take us to one of the most beautiful lake regions in Austria, stopping first in St. Wolfgang where Mozart’s mother was born. We will enjoy some of the best apple strudel anywhere. We will visit the Cathedral in Mondsee, the site of the wedding scene in the Sound of Music.

Day 6: June 22

Our tour today will take us on a scenic drive to Berchtesgaden. We will explore the interesting salt mines of this area. Our next stop will be Eagle’s Nest. Hitler chose this as his mountain retreat (and later had it prepared for his last stand). We will return to Salzburg where we will have an evening concert of chamber music at the Salzburg Castle (Hohensalzburg Fortress). We will have a beautiful view of the city at night.

Day 7: June 23

We begin our journey through the Bavarian landscape to Schwangau where we will explore the fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein. We will visit the beautiful Wieskirche Church. After this we will have a short drive to Oberammergau for the next two nights. We will have a brief tour of the city.

The rest of the day is free.

Day 8: June 24

Since the Lord has blessed us with our accommodations in Oberammergau we will have the morning free. You will be able to visit many of the unique shops or just stroll around this lovely town.

Highlight of our trip: We will attend the world famous Passion Play presented by the people of Oberammergau, Germany. The 1st half of the play will be in the afternoon and the 2nd half will be in the evening. We will have dinner as a group in between the two sessions.

Day 9: June 25

Today we depart Oberammergau stopping at the exceptional Linderhoff Castle. We continue driving through gorgeous countryside as we make our way to Munich. We visit the Munich town center before arriving at our hotel.

Depart Munich for the USA

Day 1: Depart U.S. Sept. 13
Day 2: Sept. 14

Arrive in Frankfurt, Germany. After we board our bus, we will head to Rhine country and have a free afternoon to relax after our overnight flight. We will enjoy the picturesque town of Rudesheim on the Rhine.

Day 3: Sept. 15

We begin our day with a delightful cruise on the Rhine River. We will enjoy the beautiful views of the Rhine Valley including wonderful vineyards, medieval castles, scenic villages and the Lorelei Rock. After our cruise, we will begin our journey into the renowned Black Forest region. We have selected a charming hotel for our night in Breitnau/Freiburg.

Day 4: Sept. 16

After breakfast, we will visit the largest waterfall in Europe, the Rhine River Falls. We will then depart Germany & cross into Switzerland. We will depart after breakfast for the top-of-the-world, Mt. Titlis. No words can describe the views we will see. In the heart of the Titlis glacier a whole new world opens to you. This impressive cave takes visitors through a 150-meter long tunnel down to 20-meters under the glacier’s surface. WOW!

We will have a free afternoon.

Day 12: Sept. 24

Today we depart Oberammergau, stopping at the exceptional Linderhoff Castle. We continue driving through gorgeous countryside as we make our way to Munich. We visit Dachau, which was the first Nazi concentration camp (1933). Today, it is easily accessible and it is an effective voice from a horrible past pleading, “never again”. We will have an early arrival at our hotel.

Day 13: Sept. 25

Depart Munich for the USA

For those of you on the September trip you will have the option to return to USA or join us on an excursion through Italy.

Day 13: Sept. 25

Depart Munich heading again through breathtaking countryside. We will travel into Italy through the Brenner Pass. Our destination today is Verona, the medieval setting of Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet.” We will see Juliet’s balcony and stroll around the picturesque market place.

Day 14: Sept. 26

After breakfast we will drive to Venice, a beautiful city built on water. It is one of the world’s greatest sights. We will take a walking tour of the city, visiting the Piazza San Marcos, which is the heart of Venice. We will see the Grand Canal and the fabulous art found in the city’s churches. We will have time to wander around and take in all of the sights. We will have dinner in Venice.

Overnight: Verona

Day 15: Sept. 27

We depart Verona heading to Florence. We will have a city tour of Florence. We will be awed by the Uffizi Gallery, which has the greatest collection of Italian paintings anywhere. We will also visit the Accademia (which houses Michelangelo’s David) and the Bargello, a museum of sculptures.

We will have our afternoon free.

Dinner and overnight: Florence

Day 16: Sept. 28

We will depart Florence for the jewel, Rome. We will begin with a ½ day tour of the city. No other Italian city is as compelling as Rome. We will visit the Colosseum, the Forum, and the Patheon. We will stroll from the Piazza del Papalo to the Spanish Steps & see the Trevi Fountain.

Dinner and overnight: Rome

Day 17: Sept. 29

Today we will revel in the beauty of all Rome has to offer. We will see the Vatican City, St. Peter’s Cathedral, the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. It will be an awesome day of touring.

Terms and Conditions

Cancellation fees:

A $50 processing fee will be charged to the participant for
any cancellations received before September 1, 2009. Due
to the nature of this trip, we will not be able to refund any
money after September 1, 2009. We recommend travel
insurance for this reason. Tickets for the play and the
accommodations in Oberammergau must be paid in full by
September 2009.

Cancellations:

Cancellation notice must be received in writing and is only valid as of the day it is received.

Airline tickets:

CBU Travel and Tours uses scheduled IATA carriers for flights. To minimize the cost to our passengers, we utilize non-refundable, non-exchangeable, non-changeable tickets. CBU cannot be held responsible for changes or delays in airline itinerary. Purchase of travel insurance is highly recommended.

Payment:

A deposit of $500 per person is required along with a completed registration form to secure your reservation. Payments must be made as noted in the payment schedule. The second payment of $1500 is due January 1st for both tours.

Final payment is due as listed:

The balance due of $2749 for the June trip and $2949 for the September trip is due in full by March 1, 2010. The balance due of $1499 for September Italy extension is due in full by May 1, 2010. All tour members are accommodated on a “first come” basis as
space is limited.

Documentation:

A VALID Passport is required.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Fuel charges if imposed by airlines will be paid by passenger. Price is based on Euro exchange rate. We hope there will be no increase due to fuel charges or currency exchange rate. We have tried to plan ahead for these items. Prices are subject to change.
  • Miscellaneous fees and items of a personal nature such as passports, laundry, individual transfers, daily lunches, beverages, excess baggage fees, and other items will be paid by the passenger.
  • Domestic air.

Extra: Any tour participant needing extra help such as an unscheduled trip to or from the hotel, etc. will be responsible for any charges incurred.

Baggage:

Every care will be taken by our representatives to ensure that your luggage is protected; however CBU Travel & Tours accepts no responsibility for the loss of or damage to baggage or belongings. Travel Insurance is strongly encouraged; please refer to your Travel Insurance brochure for additional details regarding coverage for baggage. We suggest 1 piece of checked luggage & 1 carry-on.

Accommodations:

Prices are based on double occupancy. Passengers will be accommodated in a double room with a private bath. Single rooms may be arranged at an additional cost and based on availability. If no roommate is specified but requested, we will assign roommates by gender on a first come, first serve basis. However, if no roommate is available, single supplement payment is required.

Minimum Age:

Requirement is 8 years or older for participation in this tour.

Travel Insurance:

CBU Travel & Tours STRONGLY recommends the purchase of travel insurance for travel accident, trip cancellation or interruption and damage to or loss of baggage. 100% of the cancellation penalties may be covered assuming the premium has been paid in full, and the reason for canceling is covered (see insurance policy for details & terms).
