High
in the mountains of Western North Carolina is a very unique
and life-changing gathering place for kids from all over
the country called The Ridge Youth Camp. This
is a dream come true for Jim Jackson, President of Christian
Believers United, who has sponsored youth camps since 1977,
just three years after the birth of the CBU ministry. Since
that first very basic camp with just over twenty campers,
hundreds have made their way through the dynamic and power-filled
youth camps each summer. The obvious "mark of God" on
the camps is the fruit that is lasting. As of today, nearly
thirty young campers have grown to take their place in
full time ministry as church leaders, pastors and missionaries.
Hundreds are now living fulfilling and successful lives
as community and business leaders, husbands, wives, mothers
and dads and even a Miss America!
As you know, each year we pay for two youth to come to camp that otherwise could not afford it. This year, we felt very strongly about sending two teenage boys. These children lead a very hard life. They had a lot of anger, just because of their circumstances. These two children came to the Senior High session of the camp. I really prayed over these children weeks before they came
A few nights ago, we were reading a letter from Jim, stating that the camp had gone very well and that several youth came to know the Lord and were baptized in the river. As I was reading this, the Holy Spirit just fell on me. I remarked to my husband, “I so hope that these children who were baptized in the river were the boys we sent.”
The father of the boys called me this morning. His oldest son, who had the most anger, totally gave his life to the Lord while at the camp and was baptized in the river. He said his son immediately began to evangelize the other youth around him when he got home. He is RETURNING to boot camp next week with one of these boys that he has been talking with. His father said his son has totally changed. They both want to come and see me and hug our necks for sending them to this camp.
I needed this today! We sow so much into people’s lives, not in ORDINARY ways, and rarely see the fruit. But every now and then, one comes back to say “Look what Jesus did and thank you for making it possible”. It makes it all worth it. It changed two children’s lives forever.
