The Best Is Yet To Come

TJ Web O3Let it snow!  The words to this song remind me of the “Think Snow” bumper stickers I used to see around Black Mountain.  When we lived in Ukraine, we got more snow than most people here remember in their lifetimes.  They were good, solid proper snows – and that snow stayed on the ground a long time.

And all this snow got me meditating on this bit of scripture.  Snow is a picture of many things – but in this text, it is a picture of God’s Word:

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,

and do not return there but water the earth,

making it bring forth and sprout,

giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;

it shall not return to me empty,

but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,

and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:10-11

What a great promise!  As we start a new year, God has given us a picture of his word covering the earth like snow.  I’m especially encouraged by the power of the phrase “it SHALL accomplish that which I purpose.”  God speaks, and things happen.  God purposes, and his will is done.

As we start this new year, I want to encourage you that God will accomplish his Word. God will fulfill his promises.  God will do all that is in his heart to do.  He asks us to pray, to believe, to join him in faith - trusting that He is good, He is mighty . . . He is God!

And because He is who He is, we can say in confidence - it's going to be a good year.  Not perfect, not problem-free, but good.  And we say this in faith believing that the best is yet to come!
